Electronic Drum Kit Based on Arduino

Electronic Drum Kit Based on Arduino

Overview

The project utilizes an Arduino to produce a drum kit which comes with four piezo sensors, PCB, and other required to make it work with Arduino as a mini shield.

Explanation

In the design, there are 3 sections contained in each drum pad. The top layer protects the sensor from damage by reducing the amount of noise from the drumstick hitting the sensor. The middle layer contains a piece of metal which transmits the shock from the stick into the piezo sensor.  What keeps the drum from rattling on the table is the bottom layer.

By putting a sandwich of layers with a sensor in the middle, the drums were essentially. The can be assembled onto one piece of ¼” plywood while making the pads smaller in order to be used as a desktop model. All of the resistors and diodes are pushed into the PCB.

The six drum pads were made to connect to the PCB since there is space at the bottom edge of the Drum Kit where each pad should go to one of the sets of pads with the wire that is connected to the red lead of piezo.
