Overview The goal of the project is to create a homemade IrDA adapter that can be used with IrDA module in order to download or communicate with devices that are compliant to standard IrDA such as Pocket PC, PDA, or mobile phones. Explanation A single onboard IrDA connector is available mostly in new model PC mainboards like ASUS. By setting the BIOS, the IrDA function can be enabled where the function of serial port between COMx and IrDA is changed. This project has been created to avoid purchasing expensive and separate IrDA adapter for old mainboards. The popular IrDA transceiver device is the TFDS4500 because it contains resistors and capacitors. The IrDA adapter assembly can be used for turning OFF the PC while connecting this adapter to the mainboard. It can turn ON the PC then goes to BIOS and can be used for locating the serial port setting menu. The IrDA function should be enabled if the mainboard does not provide support. The IrDA icon will be seen on the taskbar of PC monitor after completing the installation driver. The IrDA transceiver utilizes HSDL1001 with resistor used to limit the output current to the infrared LED. Rest of the project
