Developing an Illuminated LED Eye Loupe
|
|
Overview The goal of the project is to adapt an ordinary eye loupe to an illuminated LED eye loupe. Details Before doing any construction, the components and tools should be ensured complete. This will include 8 SMD white LEDs and resistors, annular cut shape copper clad board, ordinary eye loupe, and 4xAA battery holder. Soldering the LEDs is the first step in preparing the PCB. The diameter of the lens and the diameter of the rim of the loupe should be measured. The PCB can be cut using a milling machine and the copper can be separated in two circular concentric bands using dremel tool. The LED and resistors are soldered at right angles while the resistors are ensured to be soldered to the LED anode. To allow the component to be soldered with a minimum of fuss and without too much heating of components, it is preferable to tin the location of the folder. A digital multi-meter can be used to test that the LEDs light up. To turn the LEDs OFF, an ON/OFF switch can be placed in series. If putting a switch is not possible, just remove the battery from holder. Rest of the project
