Playing with the LED Puzzlemation

The Puzzlemation project was built with an expandable platform of light and animation in order to create animated signs, puzzles, and other figures.

Details

The PIC24FJ64GA002 is one of the main components used as a tray to build the system along with the tiles that is capable of being separated. The display of the project consists of a number of tiles that is made up of 2” square 8 x 8 array of color LED pixels. The LEDs under each display is being driven by the PIC24FJ64GA004. The tiles can be re-assembled and picked up whenever desired since each tile is individually animated and powered.

A special tray is used to set up the display and where the tiles are placed. Through the Ethernet, the animations are being downloaded into the tray and an SD card stores them locally. The animation to each of the tiles are broadcast by the tray and are then synchronized. The animation can be updated continuously over the Ethernet connection if the pieces are left in the tray. The animation will be displayed for several hours with their own rechargeable battery power if the tiles are removed from the tray.
