RGB LED Mood Light with Remote Control

RGB LED Mood Light with Remote Control

Overview

The project utilizes a remote control to adjust the color of a power LED light beam as well as store the colors and recall them at will.

Explanation

Using the three fundamental colors of red, green, and blue, the color of a bright light can be controlled into several different color combinations. A great range of colors from the visible spectrum can be formed by adding them together with different intensity.

This mood lamp can shift colors through 32 intensity values for each RGB color to give 32768 different combinations of brightness, intensity, and hue. There are 10 different combinations that can be stored and be turned ON or OFF with the use of a TV remote control. The heat dissipation is kept to a minimum because the intensity of each red, green, and blue component is done through PWM. Since the controls are done entirely via the remote control, the circuit is simple and there are no pushbuttons.

A heatsink will be necessary due to the high power rating of the LED used in this circuit which is supplied with 5V. Any programmable remote control that supports Philips TVs will work.
