Water Meter Based on ioBridge

Water Meter Based on ioBridge

Overview

The ioBridge water meter is made to be connected in the home’s incoming water line where a switch is flipped for each gallon of water travelling through the device.

Explanation

An ioBridge module is used to count the electrical pulses created by the switch the ioBridge.com tracks the data by using the free web based data logging service. To make the installation easier, two coupling adapters come in the water meter. To install the new meter, a straight section was needed after the main water shut-off valve. Different fittings and connection pipes were assembled so that shutting off the water will not get stuck half way through the project. The threaded connections would require a little Teflon tape and for the pipe fittings, some PVC cement.

The water line needs to be marked by holding the assembly up to the pipe. A 6ft. section of cable comes in the water meter. The wires were soldered and covered with heat-shrink tubing then stuck behind the water line to prevent being exposed. A reed relay contact switch is contained in the water meter which will connect and disconnect as the meter reads each gallon of water.
