Physical Interactions Through IP known as Touch Project

Overview

The project illustrates how over any distance across the Internet, two people are capable of touching each other’s fingers by constructing this Touch Project.

Explanation

During the operation, the data is sent over the internet to the server and sent back to the fingers as the Touch uses two force sensitive resistors to feel the force through touching. For IP communication, a Comfile CUBLOC CB220 microprocessor was used along with Lantronix Xports which carries all serial data traffic over UDP port. The microprocessor was mounted on a CUBLOC proto board with a 5V 7805 regulator in addition. The Xport and the servo require more current so a bigger 5V regulator is needed for them although the CUBLOC has its own 5V regulator.

A Pololu micro serial servo controller was added which will be responsible for connecting to the other serial port of the CUBLOC. To plug into the DB-9 connector on the proto board, the Lantronix Xport was mounted on a Comfile Xport dongle. A serial cable from the laptop to the DB-9 connector can be attached to program the CUBLOC when the Xport is not connected to the DB-9 connector.
