Programmable Thermostat S.M.A.R.T. HVAC Monitor

Programmable Thermostat S.M.A.R.T. HVAC Monitor

Overview

The Self-Monitoring, Analysis and Reporting Technology (S.M.A.R.T.)  HVAC monitor contains a programmable thermostat in order to remotely control and monitor the HVAC system through the web.

Details

The basis of the project is a PIC18F452 microcontroller which capable of using the standard 2-wire hardware I2C. this makes the device easily interfaced with most commercial and residential systems with the ability to access over the internet. Aside from remote control and monitoring via web, the project was designed with upfront control and monitoring via LCD and pushbuttons along with remote monitoring, data logging, and graphing. Full remote control is being offered by the web-enabled thermostat as well as a full upfront user interface with pushbuttons and LCD & remote monitoring and logging of temperature history using simple bash and Perl scripts running on a VM Linux server.

The board can operate systems that utilize single stage cooling and single or dual stage heating with full Heat Pump control. Although it is limited to 5 relays for controlling whichever 5 devices desired, it can be customized to whatever the application is. That board was designed to be interfaced with a residential/commercial industry standard 24VAC HVAC system.
