Stock Alert Application with Flashing Feature

Overview

The purpose of the project is to alert the user when the stock quotes have exceeded or dropped below a certain price threshold by reading stock quotes into an excel spreadsheet.

Explanation

A flashing alert on a screen is one way warning the trader about price fluctuations in stock market. It can either produce a sound alarm from the PC or extend visible signal of the stock alert beyond the computer screen which leads to creating flashing stock alert. There are two components that comprise the flashing stock alert. One is the .NET solution which uses Microsoft Excel to allow traders to set alerts. The other is the Parallax Basic Stamp II circuit which alerts the user using LED flashers.

The .NET works with ranges which can be any set of cells within the Excel Spreadsheet and the application design on the .NET side focuses around three main classes including the Worksheet, stock scraper, and serial port alert class. The Basic Stamp II circuit connects the LEDs to three of the Basic Stamps ports in order to control their state by sending signals to the serial port. it can toggle ports logic state.
