OverviewThe circuit has been made for the creation of a symmetrical voltage that would come from a single power supply. Terminology- L165 – a monolithic integrated circuit in Pentawatt package, intended for use as power operational amplifier in a wide range of applications including servo amplifiers and power supplies due to its features such as SOA protection, high gain and high output power, thermal protection, output current up to 3A, 18V supply, and large common-mode and differential mode ranges
Circuit Explanation The circuit is providing the possibility the possibility of producing a symmetric voltage as required for some applications. This will always come from the existing single power supply of the circuit which is made possible by the use of IC1 L165. The voltage output is symmetrical in nature compared to the normal output. The value of the single voltage supply used in the circuit has the range from 6 V up to 40 V while the symmetrical voltage output will be in the range of 3 V up to 20 V at 3 A current. In case of a 24 V supply, the output voltage will be a symmetrical value of 12 V. This voltage is with reference to the 0 V from the output of IC1. The capacitors C1 and C2 should be located in any way possible near the IC1 while the capacitors C3 and C4 will be connected above or across the input and output pin of IC1. The wires and spacing to be used for this circuit should be wide enough to handle the high current in as much as 3 A that would pass the circuitry, when the circuit is made on a printed circuit board. A good quality cross section of the connecting cables should be noted for the handling of large currents. A suitable heatsink should be used for the heat dissipation of IC1. | Application The symmetrical output power supply is being widely used in op-amp application and in other highly rated power amplifier. Other designs can produce a symmetrical output voltage by associating converters using a common input stage. They are preferred specifically for eliminating the hum and noise that originates from unbalanced AC power lines which are generated by every electrical device connected to the power line like refrigerators, light dimmers, fluorescent lighting, air conditioners, and other audio and video equipments.
