Firefighting Robot Using Wiimote

Firefighting Robot Using Wiimote

Overview

The project utilizes a Wiimote in order to create a suitable control system for a firefighting robot.

Details

One of the good features of Wiimote is that it is a low cost Bluetooth transceiver since it can both send and receive Bluetooth commands. It uses the IR sensor which is capable of detecting the candle. The sensor readings are transmitted over Bluetooth back to the host computer. The host computer is running a C program which is responsible for reading the sensor data and sending the commands to the Wiimote through Bluetooth. Those commands are relayed by the Wiimote with the use of its expansion port going to an Arduino board. Along with the Arduino and Wiimote is the robot platform using boebot and the Linux computer.

The expansion port of the Wiimote is using the I2C protocol and the I2C commands read and sent normally by a nunchuck. In this project, the I2C commands are read by an Arduino. The boebot is using RC servos that are modified for continuous rotation and these servos as well as the fan are controlled by the Arduino. A ULN8023 chip is used to turn ON/OFF the fan.
